Young Hip Chic and NETWORKING!

1484256_10201290489799819_1352150206_nOn Sunday, December 15th, I attended the Walk the Talk 2013 Fashion event hosted by Founder Tweety Elitou. I’ve heard the stories of such amazing fashionistas coming together to network and share fashion secret, but hunty…I was in for a surprise.

First off, let me say Tweety Elitou is an amazing young entrepreneur and is definitely a fashionista. I was very impressed by her sense of professionalism and knowledge about the fashion industry, and she definitely deserve the award for “Fashionpreneur of The Year” for pulling off such an incredible networking event full successful and motivated attendees.

As I walked through the doors of Showroom 77, a notable independent designer showroom in South Philadelphia, I was greeted by her mommager Heather Elitou. As she grabbed my coat to store in the coat room, she says, “What’s your size?” My eye stretched wide as she handed me a black and white box along with a bag of goodies. I mean I been to several networking events, but none has ever given me a pair of shoes. I just knew my night was great at that point.

I mingled for a little and chat with some familiar faces and got a chance to meet some new faces as well. It’s always great when people can share goals and network with other who can help them along the way. On top of the mingling, the food was amazing! Shot out to the Young Cookanista who cooked up a delight array of finger foods and pasta, I just couldn’t stay away from pasta salad and plantains.  The event was very entertaining with journalist/blogger Syreeta Martin, of SincerelySyreeta.com cohosting alongside Tweety. With the help of 3 little divas (Syreeta’s two daughter and Tweety sister), the night was filled with raffles tickets and prizes from Jackie’s Curls and Coil, L.A Shoe Republic, Sasha Marina Show, top shelf and many more.

You can bet if you ever attended a Walk the Talk you are sure to leave with great contacts, future goals and fabulous shoes and giveaways. Check out some photos of the event courtesy of Dawane Cromwell of Embacy Entertainment.

Don’t Hate The Players Hate THE GAME

thegame
Ooooh…Look at that picture, as if it ain’t throwing enough shade! So last week the BET hit series The Game premiered its season opener and I was shocked at how extremely boring and random the first episode was. Now don’t get  me wrong, I’m am a huge fan of the series and have followed it for 5 seasons, but I think chemistry with the team was lost when Derwin and Melanie left the cast.

Clearly the premier episode did okay, as they raked in nearly 3 million viewers, but it is even more clearer that the show suffered a huge lost in fans as the previous year panned in over 5 million viewers for the season opener. In 2011, when the show first launched on BET, it was the highest viewed sitcom pulling in close to 8 million viewers on opening night. What is the reason for such a huge lost in viewers? I think we have grown to love the couple, who have went through a turbulent relationship and admire the wife Melanie has become. There were times I wasgame looking at Melanie, like that couldn’t be me, but at the same time I admired her for her strength and dedication. Derwin was a complete jerk at times, but underneath the facade we knew that he was a sweet gentle guy. I guess it’s always entertaining to me when you see “good” girls go bad, well at least on t.v, i’m really not that insensitive (lol).

I remember in the first season, Melanie was quite the christian….she seemed almost dippy to the extent that I really couldn’t take her seriously. But that goes to show how the “game” will change you; with money comes babies and drama. It’s all to familiar, especially with today’s relationships.

Three down, four more cast members to go. Well anyway, I”m going to give it another shot and watch tonight in hopes that the the orange gets squeezed very soon…I am not one for much unnecessary story lines, give me my drama! These new characters aren’t as convincing , which makes the show seem really fake. Well anyway, I’m tuning in tonight to catch the next episode since BET is ensuring its viewers that the scandals are coming.

Here are some of my favorite scenes throughout the seasons:

Tees and Heels-Corey Wesley Urban FLRT

logo

I was invited out to Showroom 77 on March 23, 2013, and as always, expected to see a good presentation. I was super impressed when I had a chance to really see what Urban FLRT was about. Urban FLRT is the latest project from BlackOutEndeavors LLC a conceptual development firm and apparel company based in Harlem, New York.

viewimage_storyCreative designer Corey Wesley is such a down to earth guy. I could hear the passion in his voice and knew it was definitely his time to shine. Corey has been in the press before, but its nothing like “freely living real and true.” Of course their is a flirty element to the the brand, but  more importantly it is a statement of art and liberation to whatever it is your are trying to attain in life. Urban FLRT is not just a piece of garment, it is a lifestyle.

Corey stood ultra cool in his sleek and stylish tee as he took the mic in admiration of his guest. The graphic were so intriguing, each shirt has its own story to carry; you can read the elements of music, culture, and fashion infused in the design of each tee. While the gentlemen looked really good in their tees, it was the ladies in heels that sold me! Who would have known a simple tee with a few graphics would be so trendsetting?

I am simply in love with the concept and designs of Urban FLRT. I mean, I’ve worn tees before, but it’s nothing like the confidence and culture that exudes when you are rocking an Urban FLRT tee.

I’ve seen it all, rocked with a blazer or without; heels or sneakers, an Urban FLRT tee can fit  any occasion. Oh and did I mention the quality….Wesley uses a unique treatment that infuse the dye into the shirt as the designs are printed! No cracks, no bleeding, no fading, what more can you ask for?

You can learn more about Urban FLRT at http://urbanflrt.com/ or stop by Showroom 77  to purchase your tee.

Love and Hip Hop NYC-Recap

This season of Love and Hip Hop NYC wasn’t as exciting as last season, but I can say it was definitely entertaining. I myself am a reality t.v addict, especially when it comes down to somebody else’s drama. Mona Scott Young has done a terrific job at identifying ratchet; I’ve never used that word until the Love and Hip Hop evolution came about.lhhny-season-3-520x600

In Season 3, Yandy took the crown and definitely reigned on the throne showing that you can be a lady in this industry and not get consumed with the lifestyle and drama. Family was a core message in her story as it hit reality to many woman holding it down while her man’s in jail. Mendeecees was cool, and he seemed like a good dude and a perfect fit for Yandy.  Clearly Mendeecees was pulling weight back in the day, the way those charges are pending, only a mouse could get away with that.

Tahiry I was quite disappointed with. I saw so much hurt and devastation anytime she talked about Joe, but yet you go back to the same person who tore you down. Sad to say, like many woman today, when you don’t have an identity and you invest your life in a man, it is truly hard to move forward because of the fear of being alone. Whether or not Joey is going to change, we will see, but Tahiry,  hunny you gave it up to easy; treat him like y’all just met. Kaylin was so naive  I saw this coming. Don’t let the dog off the leash, he will roam in someone else’s yard.

I was REALLY disgusted at Rich. As a man, I don’t care how hurt you are by a woman, let alone your “girlfriend,” setting her up for humiliation and trying to strip her of her self-esteem just because your ego is bruised is not cool. I get it, she ratchet and all the other names she was called, but she’s still a woman. And to use one woman to hurt another is completely asinine.

The rest of the crew was cool, and not much to talk about. Rasheeda could really tone it down a bit and not be so aggressive. People talk, that’s what we do. If you got into a fight every time someone talked about you, you’d be somewhere stretched out. Jen, I’m glad she is finding her voice and independence, and am ultra excited about her getting back into blogging. I hope everything works out with her and Consequence, that is a tough relationship to be in. Olivia and Raqi, keep trying.

With the closing of season 3 of Love and Hip Hop NYC, I am clutching my pearls for this super juicy new series “The Gossip Game” which aired its first episode on VH1 yesterday. Oh and I can’t wait to see LHHATL……

477004_10150749709356522_659167320_oBreath-taking, elegance, and just pure talent describes one of Philadelphia’s aspiring fashion designers.  Michael Thomas is truly blessed when it comes to understanding and conveying class and subtle seduction in designing  his woman’s wear line. It takes great patience and detail to deliver such quality work as some designs were worn by entertainment icons such as  Philadelphia’s radio host and entertainment news correspondent Kendra G, and Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and CEO of N.A.R.S record label Marcella Araica. Other public figures such as Rakia Reynolds, CEO of Skia Blue Media  and Ambassador of Philly 360 can be seen flaunting a Michael Thomas piece as well.

Thomas is currently enrolled in the Fashion Design program at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where he is continuing his research and refining his craft in designing women’s apparel. In addition to that, he is absorbing the mentorship of one the world’s top fashion designers, Oscar De La Renta and his extraordinary team of designers. Michael Thomas is well on his way to penetrating the industry and reinventing fashion that will forever remain relevent to the current trends. What can I say? He is simply amazing, but I’ll let you see for yourself.

Shoeture by JPratt Footwear

1I think I’m in love………with JPratt…….no not the man, he’s married; the shoes. I mean when I first saw them, I nearly lost my breath; it’s definitely something special about what he adds to what some women declare trash. Jermaine Pratt had a unique foot fetish with worn down shoes and a keen sense of fashion when coming up with embellishment concepts that is unparallel to those I’ve encountered.

Some may say he’s over the top, but he’s right up my alley with a boldness that commands the attention of the fashion industry. I definitely can see Malaysia Pargo or Draya Michele of LA Basketball Wives in these shoes, so let’s push JPratt Footwear to the spotlight.

Make sure you follow JPratt footwear and keep up with his latest treasure!

Sincerely Syreeta

On Sunday, October 21st, thousands filled Eakins Oval on Ben Franklin Parkway near the Art Museum to join in the 26th Annual Aids Walk/Run Philly awareness and fundraising event. I’ve never participated in an event like this before so when I was presented with the opportunity to join YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School’s team [a sub team of the ActionAids Organization), I jumped at the opportunity.

I’m not sure why I didn’t realize it but this required me to wake-up at like, 6:30 a.m. in the morning. I have two children and I’m still not a morning person so of course I was in the ultimate struggle to get up at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. It literally got to a point where I had to remind myself–eyes closed and drool escaping my mouth–that this wasn’t about me or my rest, but about those who are greatly affected by this devastating disease and in need…
